John Marks

“John Dirne” produced about 125 Top 100 quotations and 7 Top 10 hits for others. In the year 2004 he decided to appear before the footlights himself.

John Dirne changed his name into “John Marks” and he developed into a much wanted phenomenon in the Club scenes at national level and international level. John Marks` musical style can be described as Club Trance. Many weeks before its release, his debut single “Tracking” with matching music video, was bombarded Dance Alert on The Box and reached a promising position in the Mega Top 100. This track appeared on the play lists of Radio 538 and TMF for a considerable time.

Its successor “Don’t stop” is supported by a spectacular music video shot in Turkey. An unique detail is that pretty well all 12 contestants for the Miss Netherlands elections, as well as Miss Netherlands, played a part in this clip! For a considerable period of time “Don’t stop” was on the rotation lists of various radio stations like TMF, The Box and Radio 538. This track even reached a promising position in the Mega Top 100.

With his 3rd single “Update” John Marks returned to his roots. The “Tracking Drive” was back! But “Update” reached further than all his previous singles did and becomes Dancesmash (Radio 538) as well as Grandslam (Slam FM). ”Update” attained high positions in various international dance lists. It is still used as the major Floorfiller by many Club DJ’s.

His 4th single “Do it again” comprised a Ron van den Beuken remix and especially by this it was a major success on the vinyl market. In the accessory clip John Marks was accompanied by all Miss Universe 2005 contestants. “Do it Again” put John Marks on the map internationally.

In 2006 John Marks produced a number of international hits for and with others. In co-operation with Roy Gates he produced the successful track “New Life”. With the well known Polish duet Kalwi and Remi, he produced “Revolution” which has also been used as Anthem of the (homonymous) Polish Dance Event (comparable to Sensation).

After many gigs in countries like: Poland, Spain, Greece and after months of producing for others, John Marks decided it was time for his 5th single/vinyl “Carnival”. This Mega floor filler brought him back where he belonged; At the top of the charts: Top 100 - #20, Top 40 - #21, Mega Dance Top 30 - #1, Fresh 40 - #2 and #1 in most of the download charts. Never before a John Marks track lasted as long in the charts and on the play lists of Radio 538 en Slam!FM as “Carnival”.

John Marks started the year 2007 with an insane record! “Insanity” has all ingredients of Update” & “Carnival” but is even more uplifting and a greater floor filler than every previous John Marks production. Besides various remixes, the “Insanity” single/ vinyl also contains a Milo.nl vs. CJ Stone Remix! The single is “gemaakt” in radio 538s’ show Maak ‘t of Kraak ‘t”. After that it is Dancesmash on Radio 538, Grandslam on Slam!FM and it entered the top 40. The year 2007 is the year of John Marks! White Villa Entertainment has high expectations!

Armand Van Helden

Armand Van Helden is a house music artist and music remixer whose biggest commercial successes came from his remixes of the 1996 Tori Amos song "Professional Widow", which reached the top of the UK singles chart, and his own track "You Don't Know Me" which was Number 1 in the UK in January 1999.

Van Helden was born in Boston in 1970 to a Dutch-Indonesian father and a French-Lebanese mother, but travelled around the world as a child spending time in the Netherlands, Turkey and Italy, as his father was a member of the US Air Force. At the age of thirteen, he bought a drum machine and started DJing two years later.

He returned to Boston in 1988 but also moonlighted as a DJ in Boston clubs. He attended Boston University. He quit his legal review job in 1989 to work as a remixer/producer for Mega-Mixx Productions DJ Remix Service (co-founded by his long time manager, Neil Petricone) where he reworked and re-edited a number of club records for the DJ-only service, including Shawn Christopher's "Another Sleepless Night." He also took up an occupancy at 'The Loft', Boston's leading nightclub.

Mega-Mixx's success was short lived. Mismanagement brought the company to a halt in early 1991. Later that year, he and Petricone, along with founding A&R coordinator, Tony Zeoli, launched X-Mix Productions, a similar DJ Remix service, which still exists today (http://www.xmix.com). Catching the attention of legendary Strictly Rhythm and Nervous Records A&R guru, Glady Pizarro, in 1992 Van Helden released his first official single "Stay On My Mind" under the psuedonym Deep Creed, through Nervous Records.

In the early 90's, he also released singles on X-Mix sister label, AV8 and DV8 Recordings (The DV8 name was owned by X-Mix until it was purchased by A&M Records). The Pirates of the Caribbean EP on AV8 is a little known, but widely sought after out of print 12" vinyl recording. There were a few hip hop EP's released on AV8 as well.

He released "Move It To the Left" (credited to Sultans of Swing) in 1992 on the Strictly Rhythm label, which became a moderate club hit. His first track to make the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart was "Witch Doktor" which made the top 5 in 1994.

The success of "Witch Doktor" led to opportunities to remix acts such as The Real McCoy ("Another Night", New Order ("Bizarre Love Triangle"), Blondie ("Atomic), Capella ("U Got To Know"), Lightning Seeds ("Jackie Lucky"), Deep Forest ("Marta's Song"), Jimmy Somerville ("Heartbeat"), Deee-Lite ("Dewdrops In The Garden") and Faithless ("Insomnia"). However, it was the "Professional Widow" remix that established him and became a dance hit around the world as well as a number one hit in the UK. Unfortunately, Van Helden did not receive a penny for this mix as he presented it uncommissioned, and thus was not entitled to compensation. However, it led to work remixing The Rolling Stones, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and Puff Daddy as well as Daft Punk and the Sneaker Pimps, and adding to his reputation as one of the world's top house musicians.

Within dance music circles, Van Helden is widely credited for the introduction of the U.K. bred Speed Garage sound to the U.S. club scene with incredible set of remixes. The sound, identifiable by its deep bass subtones, long melodic breaks, and devestatingly hard hitting beats are exemplified in the following remixes beginning in 1995 with Jimmy Somerville "Heartbeat"; CJ Bolland's "Sugar Is Sweeter"; Faithless "Insomnia"; Tori Amos "Professional Widow"; Apollo 440 "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Dub"; and Sneaker Pimps "Spin, Spin, Sugar."

"Cha Cha" was another top ten dance hit from his first album Old School Junkies released in 1996, along with "The Funk Phenomena". A greatest hits album appeared the next year followed by a breakbeat album later in 1997. "U Don't Know Me," a collaboration with vocalist Duane Harden from the album, "2 Futur 4 U," was a number two hit on the Billboard dance chart, a Number one in the UK and a top 20 single on the pop charts in Australia and Canada.

Van Helden released the Killing Puritans album in 2000 which contained the dance hit "Koochy". His single "Why Can't You Spend Some Time" made the number 34 in the UK in 2001. His New York: A Mix Odyssey album released in 2004 produced two hits:

* "Hear my Name" reached number 7 on the Billboard dance chart, was top 30 on world and internet charts, made number 34 in the UK, and reached the top 40 in Australia; and
* "My My My" reached number 4 on the world internet charts, number 5 in the Belgian and Dutch charts, number 6 in Australia, number 15 in the UK and top 30 in the world dance charts.

In 2005 he released the album Nympho featuring the singles "Into Your Eyes", "My My My", "Hear My Name" and "When The Lights Go Down". The album reached the top 30 in Australia, and number 48 in the UK.

Van Helden, who lives in New York City, continues to be managed by Neil Petricone of X-Mix Productions. The management company is based in Somerville, MA, but it has since split with the X-Mix Remix Service, although the two companies do continue to work together on a number co-owned label and distribution projects.

Three Drives

Erik de Koning, alias Enrico, has been producing music for 12 years now and is famous for "WaterVerve" (in some countries also called WaterWave). However, one is probably most impressed by his work under the name of Three Drives (co-productions with Ton TB)."Greece 2000", "Sunset on Ibiza", "Carrera 2" and "Air Traffic" are just a few titles that did very well, especially in the UK.

Erik has produced an enormous amount of tracks but how did it all start? His musical career started in 1990. He used to work, together with his buddy Mark van Dale, at Mid-town records. Through this job, they both discovered house music that flew over from Belgium. They thought that they could make that music as well and decided to buy their own studio. This resulted in a great first production: "Michael Jackson is in heaven now" under the name of OBSCURE FM.

A good selling record released in 8 countries and even charted in the Belgium Top 30. They really got the taste of it and continued releasing good records like "Utter Utter" and "Fuckface" both under the name of King Dale. Erik really enjoyed producing and decided to continue on a professional basis. Together with Mark, he started a production company. Lots of productions followed and their experience and love for music grew. As the "scene" changed and people were looking for something different, Erik developed a totally new club-sound. Also due to the fact that after a few years had passed, he ran into Mark van Dale again.

In collaboration with Mark van Dale and Ton TB, he settled a new sound that is recognisable to this day. Two successful releases followed on DJ Jean's label, IT Records. First of all, "Emotions" - Dub foundation was a huge club-hit and has been released in Spain and Germany. The second one, "Loosing sleep" - Club Royale, took control of position 1 for many weeks. Other successful releases by Enrico are: "The Hardclubber" and "The Disclubber", Wicked's "Discodamnation", Partision's "No May Gustah", "Together" by Department One and "Something goin on" produced with Mark van Dale.

Erik's remixes are really wanted as well. Well-known remixes of "Kay merry go round"- Tales from the crib and "Seed, scattered" by Rainbox bombed the Dutch Charts and were released world-wide. Another well-known remixes were made for Vengaboys "Boom, boom, boom" and DJ Jurgen's "Better off Alone".

Succesfull Three Drives remixes were made for Blank and Jones, Yves de Ruyter, Cor Fijneman, Scott Mac and more.

Throughout these years, Erik has been a radio dj as well. In the 90's, Erik and Mark hosted the famous radioshow "Turbulentie" on Stadsradio Rotterdam. Together with Mark, Erik was co-founder of the internet radio station www.danceradioone.com , which is currently offline.

As a dj, Erik's speciality is warming up the dancefloors: He was resident dj at "A20" Rotterdam for 3 years, spinned his records at several clubs in The Netherlands as the «O» The Haque and the Escape Amsterdam, but played his tunes in Canada, Italy, Spain, Finland and the UK as well.

Currently, Erik produces on a full-time, daily basis in a huge production studio building, counting 3 floors, 6 studio's and is called Dub Foundation. His latest work, together with Ton T.B, released under Three Drives, DJ Ton TB (and other pseudonyms as Tangled Universe) is receiving huge support from well known dj's as Oakenfold, Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren to name a few. Most of this tracks has been signed to major labels as BlackHole, Virgin (Nebula, UK), and Vandit.

Expected : A brand new solo track : "Secretly" released under "Erik de Koning" with an impressive theme and vocals of Julie Morrison, a female singer from the UK.

--

DJ Ton (van Empel) T.B. (from The Butcher, a nickname people gave him in the early days) is one of these guys that's been around in the music industry forever. He's probably best known for his production work with Three Drives, being responsible for the massive clubhits `Greece 2000`, `Sunset On Ibiza`,
`Carrera 2` and the brand new anthem `Air Traffic`.
His tracks have been licensed to upfront international labels as Hooj Choons, Xtravaganza, VC Recordings and Vandit Records. Together with his partner in music, E. de Koning, Ton T.B. has released his stuff under many different pseudonyms, such as Tangled Universe, Legal Traders and Department 1.

Ton T.B. has played all over the world on big events and in established clubs as Tangled Manchester, Haoman 17 (Jerusalem), El Divino and Privilege Ibiza.

Intermission

Intermission, was (an possibly is) a collaborative of 8 artists based in Vancouver, Canada. 4 of their members came together to perform, improvise and composed lose minimal electronic noisics, playing together regularly and forming the I.M. Band. 100's of hours of improvisations we're edited down to form their albums.

Dance 2 Trance

Dance 2 Trance is the name used by Rolf Ellmer, from Jam & Spoon and Dag Lerner, DJ Dag. Dance 2 Trance's most famous singles include "We Came in Peace", "Hello San Francisco", "Take A Free Fall", and "Power Of American Natives".

Dance 2 Trance is believed by many to be one of the first trance music acts. The promotional vinyl release of their song "We Came In Peace", from 1990, is one of the first pieces of music in history to clearly fall into the "trance" genre. Ellmer left the group in 1995 to focus on composing for his main project, Jam & Spoon — another prominent early trance act.

Chicane

Chicane is a pseudonym used by UK-based electronic musician and record producer Nick Bracegirdle. He was born on 28 February 1971, in London. Chicane is known for the single Offshore, an Ibiza anthem included in thousands of compilations in both chill-out and dance form; Saltwater, which featured vocals by Clannad member Máire Brennan; Autumn Tactics; and the #1 hit Don't Give Up, which features vocals by Bryan Adams. His other hits include the fast-paced Halcyon, and the dance melody Love on the Run, featuring the vocals of Peter Cunnah of D:Ream fame.

Chicane has also done a number of remixes for artists such as Everything but the Girl, Billie Ray Martin, Bryan Adams and Enigma.

Bracegirdle's body of work for other artists includes working as a producer for Bryan Adams, as well as for Cher on her album Living Proof. He also composed the music for PlayStation's game Formula One.

As Chicane, he usually works in the studio with a partner. Some of his first productions, such as Offshore, were made with the help of Leo Elstob, but since then, Bracegirdle has worked with co-producer Ray "Madman" Hedges and mixer Martin Brannigan.

In addition, Nick Bracegirdle works alone under the alias Disco Citizens, whose tracks have a stronger progressive house sound without any vocals, thus this project doesn't get the same airplay as the more radio-friendly Chicane. Working with singer Vanessa St. James and producer Mr. Joshua, Bracegirdle was part of the Mr. Joshua Presents Espiritu project, known for the song In Praise of the Sun, released with both English and French vocals.

In 2005, Burning Vision Entertainment created the video for Something Wrong, in which the action was all shown in reverse to striking effect.

Paul van Dyk

Grammy nominated artist and globally acclaimed DJ and Producer Paul van Dyk continues to dominate the electronic music charts and appears at the pinnacle of every Top DJ list across the globe. PvD, as his fans have nicknamed him, is currently ranked the World’s No. 4 DJ by DJ Magazine’s “Top 100 DJs poll”. His new original album In Between features collaborations with David Byrne and Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls.

PvD is renowned as one of the hardest working artists, with sold-out tours that cross each continent, headline spots at every major festival, and a hugely successful recording career. With over 3 million albums sold worldwide, van Dyk travels around the world over 16 times each year to sold out performances internationally. 2007 alone has brought us PvD remixes of Depeche Mode’s “Martyr” and Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around.”

PvD received a Grammy nomination in 2005 for Best Dance/Electronic Album for his original album Reflections – this marked the first time NARAS recognized this category. His original productions from Reflections have been synced into major motion pictures such as Into the Blue, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, television’s Entertainment Tonight and MTV’s Cribs, and international ad campaigns for Motorola, HBO, Land Rover, Ski Vail and most recently for Jeep. This year he won the International Dance Music Award (IDMA) for Best Euro DJ.

Previously, PvD won four IDMAs in 2006: Best Global DJ, Best NuNRG/Euro Track, Best Producer and Best Mix Compilation for The Politics fo Dancing 2. In addition, PvD was voted “America’s Favorite DJ” for 2004 and 2005 by BPM Magazine and was the big winner at the 2004 Dancestar Awards, taking home 3 awards: Best International DJ, Best Event and Best Music in a Commercial (Motorola). He also won the Mexican Oscar for his soundtrack in the film Zurdo in March 2004. Paul van Dyk was voted "Best Music Maker" by DJ Magazine, received the “Best International DJ Award” at the 1999 Music Awards in London, was named "Best International DJ" by Ministry of Sound Magazine, and Mixmag elected him as “Man of the Year”.

Aside from his musical activity, Paul van Dyk has always dedicated a significant part of his life to politics and social justice: from his youth, when he fled over the Berlin Wall to the West, to his children’s charity in India’s Mumbai, and his partnership scheme with the German Red Cross to help poor children in Berlin. In 2004, PvD was the only electronic artist involved in a nationwide tour with the Rock The Vote campaign, where he joined the likes of Bono, P Diddy, the Black Eyed Peas and George Clinton in campaigning for America’s youth to sign up to vote in the presidential election. He most recently received Berlin’s Medal of Honor (Landesverdienstorden) in recognition of his work with Ruckenwind, a charity organization he founded dedicated to helping poor children in Berlin. He joins a distinguished list of arts and political establishment figures with this honor.

Born in Eisenhuettenstadt, East Germany, Paul van Dyk grew up in communist East Berlin. Because his community did not have a true club culture, Paul van Dyk listened to the radio where he discovered his passion for music that extended beyond Techno music – he wanted to create a different, more unique sound. In the early 1990’s Paul van Dyk was spinning regularly at various clubs in Berlin before releasing his first album 45 RPM in 1994. But it wasn’t until the release of his second album Seven Ways which catapulted him into the Top 100, followed by the release of his hit single “For An Angel,” which began to earn him praise across the globe. By the time Paul van Dyk released Out There & Back in 2000, it became clear that the Berlin-based musician had far more to offer than his signature club sets and remixes that had already defined him as one of the most influential DJs and producers of all time. His first compilation mix CD Politics of Dancing was released in 2001, followed by Global in 2003 – a DVD which illustrates his own experiences traveling the world.

Paul van Dyk created a revolutionary and visionary concept to offer internet users legal electronic music downloads called VONYC.com – a combination of radio and a music download shop overseen by specialists focused on the electronic dance scene.

Paul van Dyk’s touring diary remains incredibly hectic with regular globetrotting stops at major venues across the globe from New York, London, Ibiza to India, China and Singapore. In the little time remaining between all the travel, Paul van Dyk resides in Berlin where he has his own radio show “Paul van Dyk’s VONYC Sessions” which airs weekly on Area 33 on Sirius Radio on Thursday nights at 6PM EST (and rebroadcasts Saturdays at 8PM EST and Tuesdays at Midnight EST) and Soundgarden which airs every Wednesday 2pm – 4pm (EST) on Fritz radio and over the internet (www.fritz.de).
